Cost of Studying in Australia for International Students (2027)

Australia teaches almost entirely in English on a two-semester academic year, February/March to November, with a smaller July intake at most universities. International undergraduate tuition runs roughly AUD 26,000 to 61,000 a year depending on the university and course, and a student visa (subclass 500) is required for full-time study.

Tuition is charged by the university, per course or credit point, and is not set nationally; among the universities reviewed for this guide, published international undergraduate rates run from about AUD 26,000 a year to about AUD 61,000 a year, with higher rates for medicine, dentistry and some other professional programs. On top of tuition, students pay Overseas Student Health Cover for the length of the visa, a Student Services and Amenities Fee at most universities (commonly a few hundred dollars a year), and living costs. The Australian Government's own financial capacity figure for the student visa, AUD 29,710 a year for a single applicant (about AUD 2,476 a month), is the official minimum benchmark used to assess visa applications; it is not a prediction of real costs, and the government's own guidance states that actual living costs, particularly in Sydney and Melbourne, are commonly higher.
