Admission at a glance

International applicants to AUBG's bachelor's degree programmes apply through the same process used for all applicants, whether they are from Bulgaria or abroad, using AUBG's own online application portal or the CommonApp. There are three bachelor's application deadlines each cycle: a Priority Admission deadline on January 15, which gives applicants the best chance at admission and at scholarship or financial aid support; an Early Admission deadline on March 15, which still carries a strong chance of financial support and, if met, automatic consideration for a full scholarship; and a Regular Admission deadline on May 15, the final deadline to start in the Fall semester. For the current cycle these deadlines were tied to Fall 2026 entry and the 2026/2027 tuition year.

Applicants submit AUBG's online application form (or the CommonApp), a roughly 650-word essay on one of several set topics, one letter of recommendation from a teacher, professor, or counselor, and an official transcript covering the last three years of high school (submitted in English, Bulgarian, or Russian, with certified and notarized translation if needed; a recommended minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is suggested). Applicants must also submit an official English proficiency score, unless they qualify for a waiver as a native speaker educated in an English-medium system. Accepted exams include TOEFL iBT (80), IELTS (6.5), PTE Academic (59), and Duolingo English Test (110), among others. A CV or portfolio and an admissions interview (in person or online) are also part of the process, and SAT or ACT scores are optional and not required for admission or financial aid, though they can help waive two introductory courses. There is no application fee for bachelor's degree applications. Transfer applicants follow a similar process, submitting a university transcript instead of a high school one. Financial aid and scholarship applications are submitted alongside the regular application and are optional.
