IELTS Requirement for Hong Kong Universities: Minimum Score

Typical minimum: 6.0 to 6.5 overall depending on the university.

HKU and CUHK both publish an IELTS Academic minimum of 6.5 overall for undergraduate admission. HKUST, PolyU, HKBU, Lingnan and EdUHK publish 6.0. CityU also publishes 6.5. Treat 6.0 as the floor across the eight UGC-funded universities and 6.5 as the level expected at the two most selective, HKU and CUHK.
