University of Groningen Admission 2027: Deadlines, Requirements, Fees for International Students

Admission at a glance

The University of Groningen (RUG) teaches bachelor's and master's programmes across faculties including Economics and Business, Arts, Law, Science and Engineering, Spatial Sciences, and Behavioural and Social Sciences. Applicants with a non-Dutch qualification pay a EUR 100 application fee before their file is processed, submit their application through Studielink together with RUG's own Online Application System, and must have every requested document uploaded to the Progress Portal before the deadline or the application is not processed.

English requirements vary by faculty: the general floor for most English-taught bachelor's programmes is IELTS 6.0 overall or TOEFL iBT 90, Spatial Sciences and Religion, Culture and Society accept TOEFL 80, and the Faculty of Law asks for a higher IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 100. Institutional tuition for non-EEA bachelor's students for 2026-2027 is set by tariff at EUR 14,000, EUR 17,200, EUR 19,800 or EUR 32,000 a year depending on the programme.

For the bachelor's cycle that started in September 2026, RUG published a general application deadline of 1 May and a numerus fixus deadline of 15 January; an early-bird option let applicants to certain faculties apply between 1 October and 28 February. The University of Groningen's Faculty of Economics and Business alone runs a numerus fixus for International Business (550 places) and for International Relations and International Organization (300 places).

Requirements

Bachelor

A secondary qualification recognised as giving access to university-level study, meeting the chosen programme's own subject prerequisites. English-taught programmes require IELTS Academic 6.0 (Faculty of Law: 7.0) or TOEFL iBT 80 to 100 depending on faculty, unless exempt. Numerus fixus programmes add a selection procedure with a fixed number of places.

Master

A relevant bachelor's degree meeting the specific master's programme's own grade, subject and, for some programmes, English-level requirements.
