University of Auckland Admission 2027: Deadlines, Requirements, Fees for International Students

The University of Auckland is New Zealand's largest university and sits in the country's biggest city, with its main campus in the Auckland CBD and smaller sites across the wider region. International undergraduates apply directly through the university's online application system and pay fees that vary a great deal by subject: about NZD 40,225 a year for a standard Bachelor of Arts and most non-laboratory programmes, rising to NZD 86,561 a year for the second and later years of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Every student, domestic or international, also pays a Student Services Fee charged at NZD 9.44 a point, which comes to about NZD 1,133 a year for a full-time 120-point course load. Applicants need secondary schooling assessed as equivalent to New Zealand's University Entrance standard, and, unless they qualify for a waiver, evidence of English proficiency: an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, a TOEFL iBT score of 80 with at least 21 in writing, or a PTE Academic score of 50 with no communicative skill below 42. Most Semester One programmes close to new applications on 8 December of the preceding year, though several health science and teaching programmes close earlier, and only a limited set of degrees take new international undergraduates for Semester Two, which closes in June of the intake year. Offers of place are usually conditional until final school results and English evidence are confirmed, and international students need a fee receipt from the university before they can apply for a New Zealand student visa.

Applicants need secondary schooling the university assesses as equivalent to New Zealand's University Entrance standard; entry to some programmes, including health sciences, also depends on specific subject results or a portfolio. Unless exempt, applicants must show English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 overall with at least 21 in writing, or PTE Academic 50 overall with no communicative skill below 42. Some professional and health programmes set higher thresholds than this general standard.
