The University of Waikato is based in Hamilton in the North Island, with a second campus in Tauranga. International undergraduate tuition for 2026 runs from about NZD 32,400 a year for arts and social science programmes to NZD 48,345 for engineering and science-based degrees, calculated per paper so a student only pays for the papers they choose; a Student Services Levy, Studentsafe medical insurance and an international refund administration charge apply on top of tuition. Waikato processes international applications on an ongoing basis rather than to one universal closing date, though enrolment into a specific trimester still has its own cut-off once an offer is made, so applicants who want a particular start should apply several months ahead to leave time for visa processing.
