Sorbonne University Admission 2027: Deadlines, Requirements, Fees for International Students

Admission at a glance

Sorbonne University groups arts and humanities, science and engineering, and medicine on one Paris campus, most of it taught in French. A non-EU applicant for a first year of a bachelor's degree applies through the DAP (Demande d'Admission Prealable) procedure at the local Campus France office or French embassy, not directly to the university; Sorbonne's own site frames the DAP calendar around applications opening 1 October, a Campus France deadline in mid-December, pedagogical committee decisions by the end of April and a student confirmation deadline at the end of May. Applications for later bachelor's years, master's and doctoral programmes follow a similar decision calendar through the university's own channels rather than DAP.

Most programmes ask for French at B2 level or above; the medicine faculty asks for C1. A number of master's programmes are taught fully in English, listed on the university's Programs in English page, but the page does not publish a single English test minimum across all of them, so applicants should check the specific programme.

On fees, Sorbonne University's Governing Board has approved an exemption policy for non-EU students for the 2026-2027 academic year: students who hold a state-funded grant or who apply through a partner-institution agreement are automatically exempt from the government's differentiated rate, and other non-EU students who are not automatically exempt may apply for a discretionary exemption. In practice this means most students end up paying the same EUR 178 (bachelor's) or EUR 255 (master's) a year as EU students, rather than the national non-EU rate of EUR 2,902 or EUR 3,950.

Requirements

Bachelor's (Licence)

A secondary school diploma recognised as equivalent to the French baccalaureat. Applicants whose prior education was not in French need a B2 French certificate (TCF, DELF or TEF); C1 is required for medicine. Faculty-specific entry tests or portfolios apply to some programmes (art, music).

Master's

A bachelor's degree or equivalent (180 ECTS) in a relevant field. C1 French is generally expected for French-taught master's programmes; English-taught master's programmes set their own language requirement, stated on the individual programme page.
