Sorbonne University Admission Requirements 2027 for International Students

Sorbonne University is a large public university in Paris formed in 2018 from the merger of Paris-Sorbonne and Pierre-and-Marie-Curie universities, covering arts, humanities, science and medicine. It waives the government's differentiated non-EU tuition rate for most international students, so most bachelor's and master's places cost the same EUR 178 to 255 a year as EU students pay.

Requirements

Bachelor's (Licence)

A secondary school diploma recognised as equivalent to the French baccalaureat. Applicants whose prior education was not in French need a B2 French certificate (TCF, DELF or TEF); C1 is required for medicine. Faculty-specific entry tests or portfolios apply to some programmes (art, music).

Master's

A bachelor's degree or equivalent (180 ECTS) in a relevant field. C1 French is generally expected for French-taught master's programmes; English-taught master's programmes set their own language requirement, stated on the individual programme page.

Documents

Academic transcripts and diplomas (with certified French or English translation where needed), passport copy, CV, motivation letter, academic references, and language test certificate (TCF/DELF/DALF for French-taught programmes, or the programme's own English test for English-taught ones). First-time registrants must also present ID papers and a CVEC (Contribution Vie Etudiante et de Campus) payment certificate at registration; registration is not validated without it.

How to apply

Choose a programme and check whether first-year bachelor's entry goes through DAP or a faculty-specific route.
Bachelor's applicants outside the Etudes en France procedure (which does not cover Bangladesh) submit their DAP file to Campus France or the French embassy's cooperation and cultural action department; master's applicants apply directly to Sorbonne University.
Sit any required language test before the deadline.
Wait for the pedagogical committee's decision, generally by the end of April, and confirm the offer by the date given, generally end of May.
Pay the CVEC and register once accepted, then apply for the student visa.

English test waiver

Sorbonne University does not publish one university-wide English minimum. Its own "Programs in English" page lists many English-taught master's programmes (Paris Physics Master, Computational Mechanics, EIT-Digital Master School and others) without a common IELTS or TOEFL score, and most teaching across the university is in French. Applicants to a French-taught programme who are not a national of a French-speaking country need a B2 (bachelor's) or C1 (final bachelor's year and master's) French certificate; medicine asks for C1. Check the specific programme page for its own English requirement if it is taught in English.
