NCCU runs two awards for new international students, and both are nominated by the admitting department rather than applied for separately, with each department setting its own nomination criteria. The New International Student Tuition Waiver lasts four years for a bachelor's student, two for a master's student and three for a doctoral student, and anyone already holding another full scholarship is excluded. The New Incoming International Students Scholarship Pilot Plan is considered during the admission application itself and comes in two sizes: a full award waiving tuition and fees, though not credit fees, plus a living allowance of NT$150,000 for each academic year, and a half award waiving tuition and fees only. It is open to newly admitted international students at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level who hold no other full scholarship, and it does not cover credit fees for master's and doctoral holders. Both are available for September and February entry. Government routes exist alongside these, including the Taiwan Scholarship, which is applied for at a Taiwan mission abroad between 1 February and 31 March, and the TaiwanICDF and Elite Scholarship programmes, where candidates are nominated by their own government or institution.
