Admission at a glance
Leipzig University, founded in 1409, is one of Germany's oldest public universities and today covers a broad range of subjects across the humanities, natural sciences, medicine, law and business. It charges no tuition fee to international students, in line with Saxony's general policy; all students pay a semester fee at the start of each term, which the university's own pages describe as being in the region of EUR 300, though this research could not confirm one single precise current figure directly, since two attempts to load the dedicated fees page returned a connection error. Master's applicants with a first university degree from outside Germany can generally apply for the winter semester intake from the beginning of May until 15 September, a notably late and applicant-friendly window compared with many other German universities, though some individual programmes set an earlier deadline around the end of April or May. International applicants normally apply through uni-assist, which carries out a preliminary check of foreign qualifications before the university's own admission process begins. English-taught programmes ask for a certificate at CEFR B2 or above; Leipzig's own pages state TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 5.5 as the recognised equivalent of B2, while a number of master's programmes ask for a higher C1-equivalent score of around TOEFL iBT 95 or IELTS 7.0.

Bachelor's
Applicants need a higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the German Abitur. Most bachelor's programmes are taught in German and require German language proficiency of at least B2, with a higher level strongly recommended.
Master's
Applicants need a relevant bachelor's degree. For programmes taught in English, Leipzig treats TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 5.5 as equivalent to the B2 minimum; several master's programmes ask for a higher C1-equivalent level, around TOEFL iBT 95 or IELTS 7.0.
