Requirements
Bachelor's
Applicants need a higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the German Abitur. Most bachelor's programmes are taught in German and require German language proficiency of at least B2, with a higher level strongly recommended.
Master's
Applicants need a relevant bachelor's degree. For programmes taught in English, Leipzig treats TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 5.5 as equivalent to the B2 minimum; several master's programmes ask for a higher C1-equivalent level, around TOEFL iBT 95 or IELTS 7.0.
Documents
Certified copies of school and university certificates and transcripts, submitted through uni-assist for most international applicants; a certified translation if the originals are not in German or English; proof of German or English language proficiency depending on the programme; and confirmation of health insurance before enrolment. Master's applicants also submit their bachelor's degree certificate or an official transcript of progress if not yet complete.
How to apply
- Choose a bachelor's or master's programme and check its language of instruction and specific deadline.
- Apply through uni-assist if you hold a qualification from outside Germany.
- Submit your application inside the stated window; many master's programmes for applicants with a foreign first degree accept applications from around the start of May until 15 September for the following winter semester.
- Upload certified copies of your certificates, transcripts and language certificate.
- If admitted, pay the semester fee, arrange health insurance, and apply for a student visa if coming from outside the EU or EEA.
- Enrol and register your address in Leipzig.
