Admission at a glance
James Cook University admits international undergraduate applicants who have completed a Year 12 program or an equivalent recognised secondary qualification to the standard required for the chosen course, which JCU sets out in a country-specific academic levels table for applicants educated outside Australia. The general direct-entry English language requirement is IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no component below 6.0, or an accepted equivalent such as TOEFL iBT 74 overall with no component below 18 or PTE Academic 52 overall with no component below 52; online versions of these tests, including IELTS Online and TOEFL iBT Home Edition, are not accepted, and a small number of health-related courses, including nursing, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, psychology and occupational therapy, accept the Occupational English Test as a further alternative. JCU publishes fixed international application closing dates that vary by applicant region: for the Semester 1 2027 intake, starting 22 February 2027, applicants from South Asia and African regions must apply by 7 December 2026, while applicants from all other regions have until 21 December 2026; for the Semester 2 2027 intake, starting 26 July 2027, the same regional split gives closing dates of 17 May 2027 and 31 May 2027. Tuition is charged as an annual course fee set individually for each degree; JCU's 2026 International Guide lists undergraduate bachelor's degrees from AUD 34,649 to AUD 78,989 a year, with the higher end covering extended clinical and science-intensive degrees.
