Admission at a glance
Heriot-Watt University Malaysia is the Malaysian campus of the UK's Heriot-Watt University, based in Precinct 5, Putrajaya, and operates its own admission, fee and intake structure distinct from the UK campuses. International undergraduate applicants need IELTS 6.0 with no individual band below 5.5 (or an accepted equivalent), plus a pass in Mathematics at SPM, IGCSE or equivalent level; applicants below the English floor can take the university's Pre-Sessional English Programme before starting their main course. Applications go through Heriot-Watt Malaysia's own online portal: create an account, complete the form (which can be saved and resumed), pay a non-refundable RM 530 processing fee, and upload supporting documents including proof of English proficiency and certified academic transcripts; MBA applicants must contact the university directly rather than applying online. Tuition is billed annually and set independently of the UK campuses' fees: for the 2026/2027 session, undergraduate programmes run from about RM 49,046 to RM 59,530 a year, with engineering (MEng) degrees at the top of that range and business programmes generally around RM 49,000 to RM 51,000 a year; a 6 percent service tax applies to non-Malaysian students' fees from 1 July 2025. Heriot-Watt Malaysia runs several intake points across the year: Foundation in January, May, July and September; undergraduate in January and September; postgraduate taught in January, May and September; and postgraduate research in January and September. After an offer is accepted, students pay Education Malaysia Global Services visa fees directly, which the university's own apply page states as roughly RM 3,900 for a one-year visa (RM 4,600 for two years for Indonesian applicants), separate from Heriot-Watt's own fees.
