Admission at a glance
Curtin University, Malaysia is the Sarawak branch campus of Australia's Curtin University, located in Miri and legally and administratively separate from the Perth campus for admission, fees and course delivery. All courses are taught in English, and Curtin Malaysia's general entry floor is IELTS 6.0, with applicants at 5.5 (no band below 5.0) able to take Curtin's Foundation English units first; individual programmes can set their own requirement and applications are assessed case by case. Applicants apply through Curtin's own registration portal, and the university states that successful applicants are typically sent a Letter of Offer within three working days once supporting documents (transcripts, English evidence and identification) are complete. Tuition is billed annually and varies by school: the Bachelor of Commerce costs about RM 37,800 a year for international students, while Bachelor of Engineering programmes (electrical and electronic, energy, mechanical) cost about RM 51,100 a year; a Foundation in Engineering and Science pathway year costs about RM 29,700. A 6 percent service tax applies to these fees for non-Malaysian students from 1 July 2025. Curtin runs major intakes in February and July, with additional flexibility in October for some Foundation and Diploma programmes; specific deadline dates are published in Curtin's Academic Calendar, which this project could not read directly this session. After accepting an offer, students must apply for their student pass directly through Education Malaysia Global Services before making any travel arrangements; Curtin's own guidance is not to purchase flights until both the Visa Approval Letter (VAL, valid six months) and, where required, a Single Entry Visa (SEV) are approved. International students must also provide a refundable security deposit, roughly equivalent to a one-way airfare home, set on a country-by-country basis.
