The University of Belgrade was founded in 1808 and has 31 faculties with close to 100 study programmes taught in English. Foreign citizens pay tuition throughout their studies, set per programme: in 2025/26, integrated Medicine in English cost EUR 8,000 a year, Dentistry in English EUR 5,000, Pharmacy in English EUR 3,500, the Serbian-taught electrical engineering bachelor's EUR 2,000 and the English-taught electrical and computer engineering master's EUR 9,000. For 2026/27, bachelor's admission ran in three rounds from June to September, and master's applications open on 1 September and close on 5 October 2026. Foreign students must prove knowledge of Serbian or of the programme's language before enrolling, and faculties set their own English proof, such as B2 for the English-taught engineering master's.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes visa D as a long-term visa permitting entry and a stay of between 90 and 180 days on grounds including employment, education and family reunification, and a foreign national who needs a visa and intends to apply for temporary residence must obtain it. Applicants need a completed application form and a passport valid at least 90 days after the intended departure, with two consecutive blank pages, issued within the past ten years. Once in Serbia, foreign students apply for temporary residence, which can be granted for up to three years depending on the reason for the stay. The government's portal for foreigners lists a fee of EUR 50 for visa D, and for temporary residence a submission fee of RSD 430 and an approval fee of RSD 23,450. The government pages read for this guide do not publish a minimum amount of funds or a processing time for residence based on studies.
Foreign citizens with regulated residence in Serbia on the basis of their studies have the right to work for up to 16 hours a week. The pages read do not describe a specific residence option for graduates who want to stay and look for work, although other residence grounds exist.
