Requirements
Bachelor
A completed upper secondary education equivalent to Swedish gymnasium, with subject specific prerequisites set by each programme. English proficiency equivalent to English 6.
Master
A bachelor's degree, normally at least 180 ECTS credits, in a relevant field, with prerequisites set by each programme. English proficiency equivalent to English 6, generally IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT total 90 with at least 20 in writing.
Documents
Passport copy, secondary school or degree transcripts and certificates, proof of English proficiency, and, for applicants who are not EU/EEA/Swiss citizens, proof of application fee payment. Some programmes ask for a CV, a letter of motivation, a portfolio or writing samples, listed on the programme's own page. All documents are uploaded to universityadmissions.se.
How to apply
- Check the entry requirements for the chosen programme on Uppsala University's own pages.
- Apply through the national portal at universityadmissions.se before the 15 January 2027 deadline for autumn entry.
- Pay the SEK 900 national application fee, if required, and upload supporting documents by 1 February 2027.
- Check the selection results on the portal, published 1 April 2027 for master's programmes and 8 April 2027 for bachelor's programmes.
- Accept the offer on the portal and, if a fee paying student, pay the first tuition installment to Uppsala University before the semester starts.
- Apply for a Swedish residence permit for studies through Migrationsverket once tuition is paid or a scholarship is confirmed.
English test waiver
English proficiency equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6/English Level 2 is required for both bachelor's and master's applicants; certain prior upper secondary or university study taught in English can satisfy this without a separate test, assessed by universityadmissions.se. Uppsala also accepts Cambridge English CAE or CPE as an alternative to IELTS or TOEFL. TOEFL iBT tests taken from 21 January 2026 report on a new total scale where 4.5 corresponds to the same English 6 standard as the score of 90 recorded here, which applies to the longstanding 0-120 scale.
