Admission at a glance

The University of Trento sets tuition for non-EU applicants resident abroad through a merit-based scale rather than the ISEE income test most Italian universities use. For the first year, the fee is fixed according to the score the applicant obtains during the selection process for their chosen programme, up to a published ceiling of EUR 6,000 a year; each degree programme sets its own brackets linking score to fee, and undergraduate, master's, Italian-taught and English-taught programmes all use different bracket tables. Applicants who score 90 points or more out of the scale used by their programme are exempted from tuition entirely in the first year, and the highest-scoring candidates can also be awarded a university scholarship of EUR 5,200 a year, which itself carries a fee waiver. From the second year onward, the fee depends on credits earned in the previous year rather than the original admission score; earning 42 or more credits by 10 August again exempts the student from that year's fee. Applicants apply for a defined number of reserved non-EU places per programme, and the university publishes a ranking for each intake. For the 2026/27 cycle, the first admission call for non-EU applicants living abroad closed on 4 March 2026, with enrolment due by 31 October 2026. Programmes taught in English generally ask for a B2-level certificate, with IELTS 6.0 as the minimum most commonly stated; some programmes waive the requirement for applicants whose prior degree was taught entirely in English.

Requirements

Bachelor

A secondary school qualification giving access to university study, ranked against other applicants for the reserved non-EU places on the chosen programme.

Master

A bachelor's degree or equivalent first-cycle qualification relevant to the chosen programme, ranked by the admission score set for that programme. English-taught programmes generally require a B2-level certificate, commonly IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
