University of Helsinki Admission Requirements 2027

The University of Helsinki is Finland's oldest and largest university, founded in 1640, and teaches two interdisciplinary bachelor's programmes in English alongside a large set of English taught master's degrees. Tuition for students from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland is 13,000 euros a year at bachelor's level and 13,000 to 18,000 at master's.

English test waiver

The University of Helsinki accepts IELTS Academic at 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in writing, TOEFL iBT at 92 with at least 22 in writing, PTE Academic at 62 overall with at least 54 in each of the four communicative skills, Cambridge C1 Advanced at pass level A, B or C, C2 Proficiency at A, B, C or a C1 certificate, and the Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI) at skills level 5 in all four sub tests. IELTS General Training is not accepted; IELTS for UKVI and IELTS Online at Academic level are. The TOEFL iBT Home Edition is accepted, and the university's institution code for score delivery is 9872. TOEFL and PTE scores are valid for two years and must stay valid through the whole processing period. A language test is not needed where the applicant holds a European Baccalaureate with English as L1 at grade 5 or above (4 if taken before 2021) or as L2 at grade 7, or a degree completed in English in the EU, the EEA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the United States.
