University of Debrecen Admission Requirements 2027

The University of Debrecen is Hungary's largest centre for international students, teaching medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, agriculture and business in English in eastern Hungary. Degree tuition for 2026/27 runs from USD 5,500 a year to USD 17,500 for dentistry, and admission is by the university's own entrance examination rather than a central system.

English test waiver

Debrecen publishes no minimum score on IELTS, TOEFL or any other external test. It checks English inside its own admission process instead: the language of the entrance examination and the interview is English, and the university states that as part of the oral interview the committee tests the applicant's English communication skills alongside their motivation. For the non-medical programmes the written entrance examination itself covers English as well as the subject. An applicant whose English is not strong enough for a medical interview can take one of the university's own preparatory routes first: the Basic Medicine Course at USD 7,500, an International Foundation Year at USD 6,000, or an English Language Course at USD 6,000 for the year, USD 4,800 for an intensive semester or USD 3,000 for a short course.
