Admission at a glance
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is one of the largest research universities in the Netherlands, with faculties covering humanities, social and behavioural sciences, science, economics and business, law, and medicine. International bachelor's applicants apply through Studielink and then complete a university-specific application with an uploaded diploma, transcript and, where required, an English test certificate. All applicants with an international diploma pay a non-refundable EUR 100 application fee.
Deadlines depend on the programme. A small group of selective programmes, including Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE) and Liberal Arts and Sciences, close on 1 February. Programmes with a numerus fixus quota, such as Business Administration, Economics and Business Economics, Political Science and Psychology, close on 15 January. Every other bachelor's programme has an advisory deadline of 1 April for applicants who need a visa or UvA housing, and a final deadline of 1 May for all other international applicants.
Non-EEA tuition varies sharply by faculty: bachelor's programmes in Economics and Business start near EUR 13,900 a year, most Humanities, Law and Social Sciences programmes sit around EUR 17,500, and Medicine and Dentistry charge about EUR 34,700. English proficiency is checked against IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each section, or TOEFL iBT 92 overall with at least 22 per section, submitted by 1 April for non-EU/EEA applicants.

Requirements
Bachelor
Applicants need a secondary school qualification recognised as giving access to university-level study in its home country, meeting any subject-specific prerequisites of the chosen programme. English-taught programmes require IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (6.0 per section) or TOEFL iBT 92 overall (22 per section), unless exempt. Selective and numerus fixus programmes add a motivation letter, grades and sometimes a test or interview as part of ranking.
Master
Applicants need a relevant bachelor's degree, normally with a minimum grade average set by the programme, plus English proficiency at the same level as for bachelor's admission unless the programme sets a higher bar.
