UiT The Arctic University of Norway Admission Requirements 2027

UiT The Arctic University of Norway, in Tromsø, is the world's northernmost university and teaches more than twenty master's programmes in English. From August 2026 it cut its tuition for non-EU students to NOK 100,500 a year for humanities and social sciences and NOK 150,500 for science and technology, well below other Norwegian universities, but its deadline for non-EU applicants is 15 November, two weeks earlier than most of Norway.

English test waiver

UiT sets its English bar by level. For master's programmes it asks for IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT or Home Edition 85 for a test taken before 21 January 2026 or 4.5 after that date, PTE Academic 62, or Cambridge Proficiency or Advanced at the required grade. For bachelor's programmes the bar is IELTS 6.0 and TOEFL iBT 60, or 3.5 on the new scale. UiT does not accept TOEFL MyBest scores, and it does not accept the Duolingo English Test at all, which matters because many applicants assume Duolingo is universal. Tests may be no older than two years on the application deadline and must be uploaded with the application; TOEFL results are verified through institution code 0742 and IELTS through the TRF number, which has to be visible on the uploaded copy. An applicant who meets the education requirements in Norway's national country list does not need to prove English. There are no preparatory English courses at the university, so a missing score cannot be made up on arrival.
