Admission at a glance
The Technical University of Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt) is a public technical university in Hesse and a founding member of the TU9 group of Germany's leading institutes of technology, with particular strength in engineering, computer science and the natural sciences. It charges no general tuition fee to international students; Hesse has not introduced the kind of non-EU tuition fee found in Baden-Württemberg or at some Bavarian universities. All students pay a semester contribution, which the university's own schedule set at EUR 402.68 for the winter semester of 2026/27, made up of a EUR 352.68 semester fee and a EUR 50 administrative fee; international exchange students pay only the semester fee portion. TU Darmstadt does not publish one single university-wide application deadline, instead setting the online application period to open on 1 June for the winter semester and 1 December for the summer semester, with the exact closing date for each programme published closer to the time; the Computer Science master's programme, used here as a representative example, states its own window as running to 15 July and 15 January respectively. Most English-taught master's programmes ask for IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95, though a smaller group of more mathematically focused programmes accepts a lower score. Bachelor's degrees are taught in German and require certified translations of all foreign-language documents.

Requirements
Bachelor's
Applicants need a higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the German Abitur, with certified translations of all documents not already in German or English. Bachelor's degrees are taught in German and require German language proficiency.
Master's
Applicants need a relevant bachelor's degree. Most English-taught master's programmes ask for IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95; a small number of more mathematically focused programmes, including Mechanics, Mathematics and Particle Accelerator Science, accept a lower IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 72. Applicants whose prior bachelor's degree was taught entirely in English can usually submit confirmation of that instead of a test certificate.
