Requirements
Bachelor's
Applicants need a higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the German Abitur, with certified translations of all documents not already in German or English. Bachelor's degrees are taught in German and require German language proficiency.
Master's
Applicants need a relevant bachelor's degree. Most English-taught master's programmes ask for IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95; a small number of more mathematically focused programmes, including Mechanics, Mathematics and Particle Accelerator Science, accept a lower IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 72. Applicants whose prior bachelor's degree was taught entirely in English can usually submit confirmation of that instead of a test certificate.
Documents
Original school-leaving and university certificates and transcripts with certified translations if not already in German or English; a copy of your passport; proof of German or English language proficiency depending on the programme; and confirmation of health insurance before enrolment. Documents in a language other than German or English need certification by a German embassy, consulate or a certified translator.
How to apply
- Choose a bachelor's or master's programme and check its specific application deadline, since TU Darmstadt publishes exact closing dates by programme rather than one fixed university-wide date.
- Prepare certified translations of any documents not already in German or English.
- Submit your application inside the stated window; the winter semester application period usually opens 1 June and the summer semester period 1 December, with the exact closing date published closer to the time.
- Upload your certificates, transcripts and language certificate.
- If admitted, pay the semester contribution, arrange health insurance, and apply for a student visa if coming from outside the EU or EEA.
- Enrol and register your address in Darmstadt.
