Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Admission Requirements 2027

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is Sweden's specialist university for agriculture, forestry, veterinary medicine, landscape architecture and environmental science, with its main campus in Uppsala. It teaches primarily at master's level in English and applies through the shared national admissions system.

Requirements

Bachelor

SLU offers very few programmes taught in English at bachelor's level; a completed upper secondary education equivalent to Swedish gymnasium is required where one is offered, with subject specific prerequisites set by the programme. English proficiency equivalent to English 6.

Master

A bachelor's degree, normally at least 180 ECTS credits, with subject specific prerequisites set by each programme, commonly 60 to 90 credits of specialization in a related field. English proficiency equivalent to English 6, generally IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, or TOEFL iBT total 90.

Documents

Passport copy, degree certificates and transcripts, proof of English proficiency, and, for applicants who are not EU/EEA/Swiss citizens, proof of application fee payment. Some programmes ask for a CV or a letter of motivation, listed on the individual programme page. All documents are uploaded to universityadmissions.se.

How to apply

  1. Check the entry requirements for the chosen programme on SLU's own programme pages.
  2. Apply through the national portal at universityadmissions.se before the 15 January 2027 deadline for autumn entry.
  3. Pay the SEK 900 national application fee, if required, by the application fee deadline, and upload supporting documents by 1 February 2027.
  4. Check the selection results on the portal, published 1 April 2027 for master's programmes.
  5. Accept the offer on the portal and, if a fee paying student, pay tuition to SLU before the semester starts.
  6. Apply for a Swedish residence permit for studies through Migrationsverket once tuition is paid or a scholarship is confirmed.

English test waiver

SLU's own entry requirements page does not state a specific IELTS or TOEFL number; it says the English requirement can be met through certain upper secondary or university studies, or an internationally approved English test, and directs applicants to universityadmissions.se for the equivalence table. The figures recorded here (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90) are the national English 6 standard used across Sweden.
