English test waiver
Semmelweis sets no IELTS or TOEFL minimum. It examines English directly instead, and more thoroughly than the other Hungarian medical schools: the entrance examination for General Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences covers four subjects, biology, chemistry, English and Biomedical English, so an applicant is tested on medical and scientific vocabulary as well as general English. For Dentistry the science papers are titled Medical Biology and Medical Chemistry. The Nursing BSc and the other Faculty of Health Sciences programmes use an oral orientation entrance examination on the field of study rather than the written science and English papers. The university states that it looks for a strong background in biology and chemistry, a good command of English and clear motivation, and every document submitted has to be in English or accompanied by a certified English translation, including the CV and the personal statement. Note that the English-language programmes are for applicants without Hungarian citizenship; Hungarian citizens apply to the Hungarian-language programmes through FELVI instead.
