Requirements

Bachelor

A completed upper secondary education equivalent to Swedish gymnasium, with strong mathematics and science prerequisites for engineering and technology programmes. English proficiency equivalent to English 6.

Master

A bachelor's degree, normally at least 180 ECTS credits, in engineering, science, architecture or a related field, with specific course prerequisites set by each programme. English proficiency equivalent to English 6, generally IELTS Academic 6.5 overall or TOEFL iBT total 90.

Documents

Passport copy, degree certificates and transcripts, proof of English proficiency, and, for applicants who are not EU/EEA/Swiss citizens, proof of application fee payment. Some master's programmes ask for a CV or a statement of purpose, listed on the individual programme page. All documents are uploaded to universityadmissions.se.

How to apply

  1. Check the entry requirements for the chosen programme on KTH's own entry-requirements pages.
  2. Apply through the national portal at universityadmissions.se before the 15 January 2027 deadline for autumn entry.
  3. Pay the SEK 900 national application fee, if required, by the document submission deadline of 1 February 2027, since assessment of the application depends on payment.
  4. Check the selection results on the portal, published 1 April 2027 for master's programmes.
  5. Accept the offer on the portal and, if a fee paying student, pay the first tuition installment by bank transfer before the semester starts.
  6. Apply for a Swedish residence permit for studies through Migrationsverket once tuition is paid or a scholarship is confirmed.

English test waiver

English proficiency equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6/English Level 2 is required; applicants can meet this through certain upper secondary or university studies instead of a test, assessed by universityadmissions.se. KTH's own master's entry requirements page currently quotes the score on ETS's newer TOEFL iBT total scale, where 4.5 corresponds to the same English 6 standard as the score of 90 recorded here on the longstanding 0-120 scale, used for tests taken before 21 January 2026.
