Admission at a glance

RUET is one of three regional public engineering universities, alongside CUET and KUET, that have historically coordinated undergraduate admission testing under a combined system sometimes called CKRUET, evidenced by several of RUET's own department subdomains (civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and building engineering and construction management) carrying notices about a combined CUET, KUET and RUET admission test and a shared seat plan. Bangladeshi applicants apply online, and a written admission test, historically shared with CUET and KUET, decides a merit list; eligibility follows the common Bangladeshi pattern of an HSC science background.

A fetch of ruet.ac.bd and www.ruet.ac.bd from a server inside Bangladesh on 2026-09-07 loaded the homepage in full, unlike the DNS failure in the earlier research pass. It confirms RUET is the second oldest public engineering university in Bangladesh, established in 1964 as Rajshahi Engineering College with three departments (Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic, and Civil Engineering) and 122 students a year, converted to Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Rajshahi in 1986, and upgraded to Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology in September 2003 under its own 2003 Act. It now has 18 departments, about 6,150 students and 432 faculty members, and states its medium of instruction and assessment is English, though this describes teaching language rather than an admission English test requirement. No 2026-27 application dates or fees appear on the homepage; admission.ruet.ac.bd was not part of this fetch, so those remain unconfirmed from an official page.

Requirements

Bachelor, session 2025-2026

RUET ran its own admission test for 2025-2026. Applicants had to be Bangladeshi citizens with SSC or an equivalent in 2022 or 2023 at GPA 4.00 or above, and HSC or an equivalent in 2025 with a combined GP of at least 14.00 in higher mathematics, physics and chemistry. GCE O and A Level candidates needed grade B or better in the listed subjects, with an A Level certificate dated November 2024 or later.

Group Ka covers the engineering departments and Urban and Regional Planning; Group Kha adds Architecture, which has a separate freehand drawing test. The circular lists 1,230 general seats across 14 departments and 5 reserved seats.

The application fee was BDT 1,300 for Group Ka and BDT 1,500 for Group Kha, excluding the service charge. Applications ran from 2 to 13 December 2025, and the test was held on 22 January 2026.
