Admission at a glance

International (non-EU) applicants apply to the Faculty of Medicine of Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Kosice for one of two English-taught programmes: General Medicine (6 years, leading to the MUDr. degree) or Dental Medicine (5 years, leading to the MDDr. degree). Applicants register and complete an application form through the university's AiS2 electronic system (e-prihlaska.upjs.sk), print and sign it, and post it with supporting documents to the Faculty of Medicine Study Department in Kosice by the stated postal deadline; the postmark date decides whether it was on time. Admission is decided mainly on the results of a written multiple-choice entrance examination covering biology and chemistry (200 questions, 2.5 hours), with a pass mark that is usually 75 percent of the maximum 800 points. A small number of applicants can be exempted from the entrance exam only if they meet specific prior-study conditions set out in a separate admission-conditions document. Along with the application, applicants must submit a medical fitness confirmation, a copy of their passport or ID, proof of payment of the non-refundable application and entrance-exam fee, and an apostilled or superlegalised school-leaving certificate with a notary-authorised Slovak translation (applicants from Croatia, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Romania and Ukraine are exempt from the apostille/superlegalisation step but still need the notarised Slovak translation). The faculty states only that applicants should have a good command of English, since English is the language of instruction; it does not require a specific IELTS, TOEFL or other test certificate on its own pages. Each applicant may sit the entrance examination only once per admission year and only for one of the two English-taught programmes.

Requirements

Bachelor

UPJS Faculty of Medicine does not offer a separate bachelor's entry route for its English-taught programmes; General Medicine and Dental Medicine are both combined first-and-second-level (long-cycle) degree programmes.

Master

Not applicable in the same sense: the two English-taught programmes are long-cycle combined degrees entered directly after secondary school.

Combined first and second level (General Medicine and Dental Medicine)

• Secondary school leaving certificate (final diploma with grades), apostilled/superlegalised where required, with a notary-authorised Slovak translation.
• Medical confirmation of physical and mental fitness for university study, dated within the last 3 months.
• Copy of passport or national ID card.
• Proof of payment of the application and entrance-exam fee.
• Pass the written entrance examination in biology and chemistry (usual pass mark 75 percent), unless exempted under the faculty's specific prior-study conditions.
• A good command of English; no specific test score is published as a requirement.
