English test waiver

NTNU accepts only the tests and certificates it lists, and states that no other proof can be approved. TOEFL iBT needs a minimum of 90, the Home Edition is accepted, and MyBest scores and TOEFL Essentials are not; the result must be sent directly from ETS to NTNU under department code 9652 as well as uploaded with the application. IELTS Academic needs a minimum band of 6.5 on each part of the test, and IELTS Online and IELTS One Skill Retake are both accepted. PTE Academic, including the online version, needs 62. Cambridge ESOL certificates are accepted and, unlike the others, never expire; every other test must be under two years old at the application deadline. The International Baccalaureate with English at Higher Level grade 4 also qualifies. A test is not needed where the applicant has completed at least 60 ECTS of university study taught in English in a Nordic country, or holds upper secondary English from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States. An EU or EEA applicant may instead document CEFR B2 from their school or university, and NTNU notes specifically that an IELTS of 6.0 is not enough.
