English test waiver
NTNU sets a floor rather than a single score. Its admission prospectus requires applicants to programmes taught in English to prove English proficiency at CEFR level B1 or above, and adds that a department or graduate institute may require a higher level, in which case its own requirement applies. The requirement is listed next to each department in the Programs and Requirements search on the application site, so the programme entry is the only reliable place to read it. NTNU also publishes its own list of accepted tests and states plainly that a test not on that list will not be recognised or converted: TOEFL iBT, TOEFL ITP, IELTS Academic, TOEIC Public Testing Programme, Cambridge English Qualification for General and Higher Education, Aptis General, GEPT and the BEST Test of English Proficiency. On NTNU's own conversion table B1 corresponds to IELTS 4 to 5 and TOEFL iBT 42 to 71 on the old scale, and B2 to IELTS 5.5 to 6.5 and TOEFL iBT 72 to 94, but the table carries a note that it is for reference only. No single numeric score applies across the university, which is why none is recorded here. Applicants to programmes taught in Chinese prove Chinese proficiency instead, through the TOCFL test.
