Admission at a glance
Michigan State University runs a single undergraduate application process for domestic and international freshman applicants, built around an early action date rather than a binding early decision. Applicants who submit a complete file, including all required materials, by November 1 receive an initial decision by January 15 and are automatically considered for the university's full range of scholarships. Students who apply later are still reviewed on a rolling basis through April 1, though MSU is explicit that qualified applicants have exceeded available space in recent years, so November 1 is the date international applicants should treat as the real deadline. MSU is test optional for the SAT and ACT but still requires proof of English proficiency from applicants whose first language is not English, accepting TOEFL, IELTS, the Duolingo English Test or the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery. As one of the largest research universities in the United States, MSU offers a wide undergraduate program list across agriculture, business, engineering, communication and the sciences, and its admission review reads the whole academic record rather than a single test score.

International freshman applicants should submit a complete application, including all required materials, by November 1 for early action: an initial decision by January 15 and full consideration for scholarships. The university continues to accept applications on a rolling basis until April 1, but recommends applying by November 1 because qualified applicants have exceeded available space in recent admission cycles. MSU is test optional for the SAT and ACT but requires English proficiency proof from applicants whose first language is not English.
