Admission at a glance
University of California, Berkeley admits international first-year students through the single University of California application, the same form used by all nine UC undergraduate campuses. There is no separate international application and no separate international deadline: every applicant submits between 1 October and 30 November for a fall start, and Berkeley reviews international files with the same comprehensive review used for domestic applicants, reading personal insight question responses, coursework, grades and context alongside test scores where submitted. International applicants must show they will complete secondary school with a certificate that would allow university entry in their home country, and must submit an English test unless they qualify for an exemption. Berkeley does not require the SAT or ACT for admission decisions. Because the campus receives well over 100,000 first-year applications a year and admits roughly one in ten, an applicant's course rigor within their own school system carries real weight. Financial certification and an I-20 request follow admission, not the application itself, so proof of funds is not part of the initial file. Berkeley publishes its own international requirements pages alongside the systemwide UC pages, and applicants should read both before applying.

Requirements
Bachelor
International first-year applicants must complete secondary school and hold, or be completing, a certificate that allows admission to a university in their home country. Applicants use the same University of California application as domestic students and are evaluated through the same comprehensive review, which reads coursework rigor, grades, personal insight responses and context together. Berkeley does not consider SAT or ACT scores in admission decisions. English proficiency is required unless exempted, with score reports due by the end of January before the fall term begins.
