Requirements
Bachelor
A completed upper secondary education equivalent to Swedish gymnasium, with subject specific prerequisites set by each program. English proficiency equivalent to English 6.
Master
A bachelor's degree, normally at least 180 ECTS credits, in a relevant field, with prerequisites set by each program. English proficiency equivalent to English 6, generally IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT total 90.
Documents
Passport copy, degree certificates and transcripts, proof of English proficiency, and, for non-EU/EEA applicants, proof of application fee payment. All documents are uploaded to universityadmissions.se.
How to apply
- Check the entry requirements for the chosen program on Karlstad University's own program pages.
- Apply through universityadmissions.se before the 15 January deadline for autumn entry.
- Pay the SEK 900 application fee, if required, and upload supporting documents by the stated deadline.
- Check the selection results.
- Accept the offer on the portal and pay the first tuition installment ahead of the semester.
- Apply for a Swedish residence permit for studies once tuition is paid or a scholarship is confirmed.
English test waiver
Karlstad University does not set its own IELTS or TOEFL minimum on its tuition page. It follows the national English 6 standard applied through universityadmissions.se.
