Typical minimum: 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5 for general bachelor's entry at most New Zealand universities (Auckland, Victoria University of Wellington, Canterbury, Massey, Waikato, Otago, Unitec, Manukau Institute of Technology). Some institutes of technology set a higher 6.5 (Otago Polytechnic, Wintec) or a lower 5.0 (Southern Institute of Technology), and nursing, teaching and some other professional programmes commonly need 6.5 to 7.0 across most institutions., verified 7 September 2026.
