University of Oslo Admission Requirements 2027

The University of Oslo, founded in 1811, is Norway's oldest and largest university and publishes its tuition two academic years ahead, programme by programme. For 2027/28 its English taught master's degrees cost NOK 186,000 or NOK 218,000 a year for students from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland.

English test waiver

Oslo runs two different bars and it is worth checking which one applies. For the European Languages master's programmes the minimums are TOEFL iBT 108 with at least 25 in reading, 25 in listening, 23 in speaking and 27 in writing, or 5.5 on the scale introduced on 21 January 2026 with at least 5 in reading, 5 in listening, 5.5 in writing and 4.5 in speaking; IELTS Academic 7.5 overall with at least 7.0 in every component; and PTE Academic 74 overall with at least 65 in every component. For every other master's programme the minimums are TOEFL iBT 90 with at least 19 in reading, 20 in listening, 20 in speaking and 24 in writing, or 4.5 on the new scale; IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with at least 6.5 in every component; and PTE Academic 62 overall with at least 58 in every component. TOEFL MyBest scores and IELTS One Skill Retake scores are not accepted. A result must be valid and no older than two years on the date of the application deadline, and the uploaded copy has to show a legible TRF number in the bottom right corner so Oslo can verify it online. Cambridge C2 Proficiency at grade A, B or C or a C1 result of at least 180, and C1 Advanced at grade A, B or C with at least 180, both taken in 2005 or later, exempt an applicant from submitting a test.
