University of Nova Gorica Admission 2027

The University of Nova Gorica (UNG) is a public university based in Nova Gorica, Slovenia, that grew out of the School of Environmental Sciences founded in 1995 and became a university in its own right on 17 March 2006, making it Slovenia's fourth public university. UNG has seven schools plus a Graduate School and requires CEFR B2 English for its English-taught programmes, such as Physics and Astrophysics.

The University of Nova Gorica is a smaller, research-oriented public university with seven schools (Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Management, Science, Humanities, Viticulture and Enology, Arts, and the Graduate School for doctoral study) based mainly in Nova Gorica and Ajdovscina. International applicants for a full degree apply through Slovenia's national eVS web portal (portal.evs.gov.si), the same system used across Slovenian public universities, rather than applying to UNG directly. Non-EU applicants (other than citizens of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, or countries with a bilateral tuition-exemption agreement with Slovenia: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia) go through their own application rounds, which for the 2026/2027 academic year ran in four rounds between 18 February and 24 September 2026 for bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes alike. Applicants upload a certificate of completed secondary or prior higher education, a certified translation into Slovenian or English if needed, transcripts covering the content and duration of their education, a short chronological description of their studies, and, for bachelor's applicants, a motivation letter and CV. Citizens of a country the EU treats as higher migration risk must also complete a mandatory interview and pay a 30 euro interview fee. Not all of UNG's programmes are taught in English: only a subset, including Physics and Astrophysics, Environment, Engineering and Management (master's level), Media Arts and Practices, Materials Science, and several Graduate School doctoral programmes, offer English as a language of instruction alongside Slovene, and each states its own minimum English level, typically CEFR B2. Full-time bachelor's and concessionary master's programmes are free for EU citizens and bilateral-agreement countries, but foreign citizens outside these categories pay tuition set per study programme, published each year in UNG's own tuition fee table.

Requirements

Bachelor

General admission requirement: a passed matura examination, a final examination completed before 1 June 1995 after an appropriate four-year secondary programme, or a vocational matura in a field relevant to the chosen programme (the exact accepted vocational fields and any extra matura subject required are listed per programme, for example Physics and Astrophysics requires an additional matura subject in Mathematics or Physics for vocational-matura applicants). Equivalent completed foreign secondary education is also accepted, subject to the recognition of education procedure. For programmes taught in English, such as Physics and Astrophysics, UNG's own call for enrolment states a general minimum English level of CEFR B2.

Master

Admission is based on a relevant completed bachelor's degree, with specific requirements, any bridging or additional courses, and selection criteria set individually by each School's study programme committee. Some programmes, for example Engineering and Management and Media Arts and Practices, are offered in English as well as Slovene, and set their own minimum English level.
