Admission at a glance
University of Lusaka accepts applications from international, non-SADC students for its undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, master's and PhD programmes at its Silverest, Mass Media and Leopards Hill campuses in Lusaka. Students from Southern African Development Community member states pay the same tuition fees as local students, while non-SADC students pay a separate foreign-student fee schedule stated in US dollars.
Applicants apply online through the university portal, creating an account with a password, after which a student number is issued. Undergraduate and postgraduate applicants must submit certified copies of their academic certificates or statement of results, certified diploma certificates where applicable, and an identification document such as a national registration card or passport. School-leaving applicants must also submit a Grade 12 (O level) certificate. All academic results, whether earned locally or abroad, must first be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA); the university states that an application without ZAQA-verified results will not be processed.
A non-refundable application fee of USD 50 is payable at the application stage, through online payment, a bank deposit, the Zanaco bill muster service, or Airtel Money. Once an applicant holds an acceptance letter, any student who will be enrolled for six months or longer, including non-SADC international students, must obtain a Zambian study permit. Non-SADC applicants are told to apply for a visa in their home country before travelling, then apply for the study permit once in Zambia; SADC applicants apply once registered and physically present in Zambia. The university's International Student Advisor assists with the study permit process, and applicants are warned to deal only with that advisor or an accredited consultant and never to pay any other agent. The university publishes application closing dates on its website for each intake; the intake currently listed there is the January 2027 intake.

A Grade 12 Certificate (or equivalent) with at least five O level credits, which must include English Language and Mathematics; specific programmes state additional subject requirements (for example the Bachelor of Science in Public Health requires English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, and one Science subject). Applicants with alternative qualifications not specified may be considered for exemptions on a case by case basis, applicable only in the first and second year of study. All results must be verified by ZAQA.
