University of Latvia Admission Requirements 2027

The University of Latvia in Riga, founded in 1919, had 16,638 students in 2025, including 693 international degree students. Non-EU students pay EUR 3,000 to EUR 5,900 a year for an English-taught bachelor's and EUR 3,200 to EUR 6,600 for a master's in 2026-27, with Medicine at EUR 11,850 and Dentistry at EUR 17,310. The application fee is EUR 170, and for September 2026 applicants needing a visa had until 21 June.

English test waiver

The University of Latvia accepts internationally recognised English tests taken within the last five years: IELTS at 6.0; TOEFL iBT at 80 for tests on or before 21 January 2026, or 4 on the new scale after that; PTE Academic at 55; PTE General at B2; Cambridge C2 Proficiency or C1 Advanced at any level, or B2 First at grade B; TOEFL Essential at 9; and LanguageCert International ESOL at B2 Communicator. Duolingo is not on the list. The master's in English Studies asks for more: IELTS 7, TOEFL iBT 100 or PTE Academic 67. Applicants whose previous studies were completed in English in Australia, the Bahamas, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, St Vincent and the Grenadines, the United Kingdom or the United States do not need a separate test, although a bachelor's programme that ranks applicants on an English grade still needs that grade.
