University of Iceland Admission Requirements 2027

The University of Iceland in Reykjavik, founded in 1911, had 13,830 students in 2026, 2,515 of them foreign. It charges an annual registration fee of 100,000 ISK and no tuition so far, but tuition for students from outside the EEA is authorised from autumn 2027 at levels not yet set. International applicants apply by 1 February 2027 for 2027-28 and pay a 20,000 ISK processing fee.

English test waiver

The University of Iceland accepts TOEFL iBT, in a test centre or at home, IELTS Academic in a test centre, Cambridge English CAE or CPE, and PTE Academic, with results no more than two years old. Most undergraduate and graduate programmes need TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5 or PTE 58; humanities masters need TOEFL 83, IELTS 6.5 or PTE 60; the English BA needs TOEFL 93, IELTS 7.0 or PTE 65; and the masters in English, English teaching, Inter-American Studies and Literature, Culture and Media need TOEFL 100, IELTS 7.5 or PTE 76. A letter saying a degree was taught in English is not accepted, except for study in the UK, USA, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia or Canada. Applicants are exempt after a full year of English-taught higher education in a majority English-speaking country, with an IB or European Baccalaureate diploma, or as citizens of listed English-speaking countries who completed secondary school there.
