Cost of Studying in Iceland (2027) for International Students

Iceland's public universities have charged only a registration fee, 100,000 ISK a year at the University of Iceland, but the government has authorised tuition for students from outside the EEA from autumn 2027, at amounts not yet set. International applicants to the University of Iceland apply by 1 February, and a student residence permit costs 70,000 ISK, requires 259,951 ISK a month in means, allows work up to 60% of full time, and can be renewed for 18 months after graduation.

Registration fee. The University of Iceland charges 100,000 ISK for a full academic year, or 75,000 ISK when starting in the spring semester.

Tuition. From autumn 2027 universities may charge tuition to students from outside the EEA, EFTA and Switzerland; the University of Iceland lists the fee per ECTS credit as to be determined.

Application fee. 20,000 ISK for applicants from outside the EEA and EFTA.

Residence permit. 70,000 ISK for the first permit and for each renewal.

Living costs. The Directorate of Immigration requires 259,951 ISK a month for an individual, for the whole period of the permit.
