The University of Eastern Finland charges tuition for degree studies in English to students who are not citizens of the EU, the EEA or Switzerland, at EUR 10,000 to EUR 12,000 an academic year depending on the programme; Erasmus Mundus and joint degree programmes have their own fees and scholarships. Applying in English on the Studyinfo form is what triggers liability, and an applicant holding a Finnish residence permit that exempts from fees uploads both sides of the card during the application period. First-year scholarships are limited to tuition waivers tied to the fee, and UEF states no other waivers can be applied for during application for the first year. Two later waivers exist: Scholarship A, worth EUR 2,500, on a certificate of Finnish language proficiency, and Scholarship B, worth EUR 1,500, on studies completed at the university. UEF also warns that it provides no emergency financial help, so students must have funds for tuition and living costs for the whole degree.
