University of Eastern Finland Admission Requirements 2027

The University of Eastern Finland teaches on campuses in Joensuu and Kuopio and offers bachelor's and master's programmes in English at EUR 10,000 to EUR 12,000 a year. It is one of the few Finnish universities that exempts applicants with an English-taught degree from India, among a named list of countries, from a language test.

English test waiver

For bachelor's programmes UEF accepts TOEFL iBT at an overall 78 for a test before 21 January 2026, or an overall 4.0 with at least 3.5 in every component on or after that date, and it accepts the Home Edition and MyBest scores; IELTS Academic, including online and UKVI, at 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in every category, and it accepts IELTS One Skill Retake; PTE Academic at 62 overall with at least 61 in writing; and Cambridge C1 Advanced at grade C or C2 Proficiency at level C1. Results must be verifiable online through the test organiser, TOEFL via institution code 9779 and IELTS via the full Test Report Form number, and are valid for two years. Master's programmes set their own minimums, commonly TOEFL 92 with 22 in writing and IELTS 6.5, and higher for the Master's Degree Programme in English Language and Culture, and a score below the programme's minimum ends the application. A test is not needed where the applicant holds a bachelor's, master's or higher degree from an English-taught programme in the EU or EEA or in one of a named list of countries that includes India, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa, provided the language of instruction is proven. Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal are not on that list.
