Admission at a glance

UCLA reviews international first-year applicants through the same University of California application used at all nine UC undergraduate campuses, filed once between 1 October and 30 November for fall entry. UCLA does not run a separate international admission track; every application, wherever the applicant studied, goes through the same holistic review that reads coursework rigor, grades, activities and the four personal insight question responses together, without SAT or ACT scores. UCLA is now the most applied-to campus in the UC system and one of the most applied-to universities in the United States, so the admit rate is low across every applicant group, not only international ones. International applicants must show they are completing secondary school with a certificate that permits university entry in their home country, and must meet an English proficiency requirement unless exempted. Because tuition, fees and living costs in Los Angeles are high even by UC standards, admitted international students should plan their financial certification well before the visa stage, which begins only after a formal offer of admission and a confirmed intent to enroll.

Requirements

Bachelor

International first-year applicants must be completing or have completed secondary school with a certificate that allows admission to a university in their home country, and must not have previously enrolled in a college or university after graduating high school. All applicants are evaluated through the same comprehensive review of the single UC application; UCLA does not consider SAT or ACT scores in its admission decision. English proficiency is required unless the applicant qualifies for an exemption.
