Admission at a glance
Purdue University is a public land grant research university in West Lafayette, Indiana, and one of the largest hosts of international undergraduates among American public universities. The Office of Admissions reviews international first year applications on the same calendar as domestic ones, through the Common Application or Purdue's own application portal.
Applicants who complete their file by the November 1 early action deadline receive full consideration for admission, for merit based scholarships and for the John Martinson Honors College, and hear back by January 15. Applicants who wait for the January 15 regular decision deadline hear back between mid January and the end of March. Purdue does not require SAT or ACT scores for admission and instead weighs secondary school grades and course rigor most heavily in its review.
International applicants whose secondary schooling was not conducted in English must submit an English proficiency score, which Purdue evaluates alongside the rest of the file rather than treating as a strict pass or fail line. Purdue publishes curriculum specific guidance for many countries through its international admissions pages, describing which school leaving certificates and predicted or final grades it expects. Admission in the most recently reported cycle was moderately selective, with a little over four in ten applicants admitted.

SAT and ACT scores are optional and are not required for admission. Applicants whose secondary education was not taught in English must submit an English proficiency score unless they qualify for a listed exemption, such as several years of study in English medium instruction.
