Requirements

Bachelor

Purdue asks for a completed secondary school record equivalent to a US high school diploma, evaluated mainly for course rigor and grades. SAT and ACT scores are optional and are not required for admission. Applicants whose secondary education was not taught in English must submit an English proficiency score unless they qualify for a listed exemption, such as several years of study in English medium instruction. Purdue publishes curriculum specific guidance for many countries through its international admissions pages, covering which school leaving certificates and predicted or final grades it expects.

Documents

Common Application or the Purdue application; official secondary school transcripts, translated into English where needed; a school report or counselor recommendation; an English proficiency score for applicants whose secondary schooling was not in English; and, after admission, financial documentation for the Office of International Students to issue the Form I-20 for the F-1 student visa.

How to apply

  1. Apply through the Common Application or Purdue's own application and select the West Lafayette campus.
  2. Submit official secondary school transcripts and any required essays by the early action or regular decision deadline.
  3. Arrange for an English proficiency score to be reported directly by the testing agency, if required.
  4. Pay the application fee or request a fee waiver.
  5. Once admitted, send financial documentation to the Office of International Students so Purdue can issue the I-20 needed for the F-1 visa.

English test waiver

Purdue accepts the IELTS Academic, IELTS Online and IELTS Indicator tests but not IELTS General Training. From January 21, 2026, TOEFL iBT score reports also carry a new 1 to 6 scale alongside the familiar 0 to 120 scale during a multi year transition; 88 on the 0 to 120 scale is the figure Purdue states as its undergraduate minimum. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission, since Purdue reviews the whole application rather than applying a strict cutoff.
