The Ohio State University, based in Columbus, reviews international first year applications through the same holistic process it uses for domestic applicants, weighing secondary school rigor, grades and test scores together rather than by a single cutoff. Ohio State sets an early action deadline of November 1 and a regular decision deadline of January 15 for its Columbus campus, both of which apply to international applicants as well.

Applicants whose native language is not English can demonstrate proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS, the Duolingo English Test, or through a qualifying SAT or ACT English section score, unless they are exempt through prior schooling in an English speaking country or system. Ohio State does not offer application fee waivers to international applicants, and its 70 dollar nonrefundable fee is collected through the Common Application.

Ohio State publishes a detailed international cost breakdown, separate from the general cost of attendance page for domestic students, covering tuition, the international student fee, housing, books, health insurance and personal expenses. For 2026 to 2027 this puts combined nonresident and international tuition and fees just above 47,000 dollars for the year, with the university's own estimate of total cost of attendance, including living expenses, running well above that.
