Admission at a glance

International applicants to HSE University's master's programmes apply through the International Admissions website. A fee-paying applicant registers in the My Application service or through the Gosuslugi portal (foreigners outside Russia register with the ruID app), chooses a programme from the catalogue, and submits a portfolio. The application allows up to two programmes, and the programme can be changed once. Admission to fee-paying places follows a competitive selection for each programme within a set number of places, and signing a contract and paying the first period of study does not guarantee admission.

For the 2026/2027 campaign, applications for fee-paying master's places of the separate competition for international applicants opened on June 20, 2026, and the deadline for document submission was August 8, 2026. Payment under the tuition contract was due by August 28, 2026, and the start of studies was September 1, 2026. Applications for the Russian government scholarship places ran from November 1, 2025 to March 13, 2026. Applicants should check the International Admissions site for the calendar of the next campaign.

HSE offers master's programmes taught entirely in English as well as programmes taught mainly in Russian with some English courses. The English requirement is stated on each programme page; the Master in International Management, for example, asks for proof of English proficiency and an interview with the admission committee. Applicants also need their previous education documents recognised, original documents with notarised Russian translations, and voluntary health insurance for the whole stay in Russia.

Bachelor

Master

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent. The English-taught Master in International Management states this on its requirements page.
• Proof of English proficiency for English-taught programmes. The Master in International Management publishes no minimum score and also requires an entrance exam and an interview with the admission committee.
• A portfolio uploaded to the My Application section, judged against the criteria listed for each programme.
• Up to two programmes per application, with one change of programme allowed.
• Recognition of foreign education documents. HSE has the right to recognise foreign educational documents itself, and the procedure is done in the applicant's personal account.
• There are no age restrictions for master's applicants.
