National Research University Higher School of Economics Admission Requirements 2027

HSE University is a university in Moscow whose International Admissions service takes master's applicants from other countries into programmes taught in Russian, in English, or in both. Requirements

Bachelor

This record covers HSE master's admission for international applicants. Bachelor's admission has a separate calendar and criteria on the International Admissions site.

Master

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent. The English-taught Master in International Management states this on its requirements page.
  • Proof of English proficiency for English-taught programmes. The Master in International Management publishes no minimum score and also requires an entrance exam and an interview with the admission committee.
  • A portfolio uploaded to the My Application section, judged against the criteria listed for each programme.
  • Up to two programmes per application, with one change of programme allowed.
  • Recognition of foreign education documents. HSE has the right to recognise foreign educational documents itself, and the procedure is done in the applicant's personal account.
  • There are no age restrictions for master's applicants.

Documents

  • Portfolio documents listed for the chosen programme, uploaded in the My Application section.
  • Previous education documents (diploma and transcript), submitted for recognition. Original educational documents are handed to the Admissions Support Centre.
  • Notarised translations into Russian when documents are in a foreign language.
  • Passport and, after admission, the migration card or entry visa and a voluntary health insurance policy.
  • Signed educational contract, scanned and emailed to inter_doc@hse.ru, for fee-paying places.

How to apply

  1. Choose a programme in the catalogue and check its portfolio criteria.
  2. Register on the International Admissions website or through the Gosuslugi portal (ruID app for applicants outside Russia).
  3. Submit your application and portfolio by the deadline (August 8, 2026 for fee-paying master's places in the 2026/2027 campaign).
  4. Wait for the results and, if recommended, receive the tuition contract by email.
  5. Sign and return the contract, and pay the first period of study within 14 calendar days.
  6. Wait for the competitive list and enrolment order (competitive lists on August 29 and 30 and enrolment orders by August 31 in the 2026/2027 campaign).
  7. Complete document recognition, upload the enrolment documents, and arrange your visa invitation.

English test waiver

No IELTS or TOEFL minimum is published for HSE master's applicants. The English rule is set programme by programme. For the English-taught Master in International Management, the programme page states that applicants must hold proof of English proficiency and take an entrance exam and an interview with the admission committee, and it does not publish a minimum score. Programmes that list Russian and English as languages of instruction are taught mainly in Russian, with some courses in English. Check the page of your chosen programme for its exact English requirement before you apply.
