National Cheng Kung University in Tainan is one of Taiwan's strongest research universities, particularly in engineering and medicine. International undergraduates pay NT$45,071 to NT$71,891 a semester in 2025/26 including fees, and NCKU runs two intakes a year, with the February entry closing in mid-September and the September entry in mid-March.

English test waiver

NCKU sets the language requirement by the language a programme is taught in, and marks each programme on its list with a colour for that. Programmes taught in English need an English certificate at CEFR B1 or above, and NCKU names TOEFL iBT 72, TOEIC 785, IELTS 5.5 with no section below 5.0, or Taiwan's GEPT at High-Intermediate level. Programmes taught in both Chinese and English need both: Chinese at TOCFL A2 or above and English at CEFR B1 or above. The IELTS condition is the one to read twice, because it is not only an overall score: a 5.5 overall with a 4.5 in one section does not meet it.
