Free University of Bozen-Bolzano Admission Requirements 2026

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (unibz) is a small public university in South Tyrol teaching in Italian, German and English, with most master's programmes taught entirely in English. Tuition for non-EU applicants living abroad is approximately EUR 1,200 a year, paid in two instalments, alongside a EUR 50 non-refundable application fee.

Requirements

Bachelor

A secondary school qualification recognised as giving access to university study. Most bachelor's programmes follow unibz's trilingual model and require B2-level proficiency in at least two of Italian, German and English.

Master

A bachelor's degree or equivalent first-cycle qualification relevant to the chosen programme. Most master's programmes are taught only in English and require B2-level English proficiency.

Documents

Passport, academic transcripts and qualification certificate, a passport photo, and language certificates matching the programme's language model, English only, or two of Italian, German and English for trilingual programmes. Non-EU applicants living abroad apply only in the Early Bird Application window.

How to apply

Non-EU citizens living abroad apply during the Early Bird Application window, generally March to April, and pay the EUR 50 application fee.
Receive the admission offer and pay the first tuition instalment to secure the place.
Submit qualification documents for verification.
Start the visa process through the Universitaly portal.
Take the documents to the Italian embassy or consulate to apply for the study visa, then travel to Bolzano and complete enrolment.

English test waiver

Most master's programmes are taught only in English and require B2-level proficiency; many bachelor's and some master's programmes instead require B2 in at least two of Italian, German and English under the university's trilingual model. IELTS is accepted and unibz's own Language Centre hosts IELTS Academic sittings, but no fixed band score is published on the applicant-facing pages read for this record.
